Novaris Web Media

A website that works in both languages and for every visitor

A half-translated site, a form that only works in English or a menu you cannot use with a keyboard loses customers quietly. This audit finds those gaps and tells you which rules matter where your customers are.

Bilingual and accessibility self-check — Tick every statement that is true for your website

What the audit checks

  • Language versions: every page available in both languages, and a language switch that keeps the visitor on the same page.
  • The details people forget: buttons, forms, error messages, confirmation emails, legal pages and the footer.
  • How search engines see it: separate addresses per language and the tags that tell Google which version is which.
  • Accessibility basics: text descriptions for images, readable contrast, zoom that does not break the page, and use with a keyboard alone.
  • The rules that apply to you, summarised for your province (see below) with a pointer to the official source.

What you receive

A plain-language report with the gaps found, which ones matter most, and a fixed list of corrections. We can make them or give the list to your team.

The rules that apply depend on where your customers are

Québec

In Québec, the Charter of the French Language sets rules for businesses that offer goods or services to people in Québec, and the 2022 reform (Bill 96) tightened them. In practice this usually means a full French version of your site, French that is at least as prominent as any other language, and French on forms, buttons and confirmation messages. The exact obligations depend on your business, so confirm them with the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF). Our audit lists what is missing on your site. This is general information, not legal advice. Check the official source for your situation.

Ontario

In Ontario, there is no general rule that a private business must publish its website in French; the French Language Services Act covers provincial government services. What does apply to certain organizations is accessibility: Ontario's accessibility rules (AODA) ask some organizations, depending on size and sector, to make their public websites meet recognised accessibility standards. Beyond the rules, Francophone Ontarians are a real audience, and a good French version is often a business decision rather than a legal one. Check the Government of Ontario's AODA pages for your case. This is general information, not legal advice. Check the official source for your situation.

Elsewhere

Language and accessibility rules vary by province, country and sector. The same checks still make your site easier to use for everyone: a visible language switch, translated forms and messages, text descriptions for images, readable contrast and keyboard use. Tell us where your customers are and we will check what applies there. This is general information, not legal advice. Check the official source for your situation.

Questions and answers

Is this legal advice?

No. The audit finds what is missing on your site and points to the official sources. For a legal opinion on your situation, speak to a lawyer.

My customers are in more than one province. Which rules apply?

Tell us where your customers are. We summarise the rules for each area and check your site against the stricter ones.

Can you also do the translation?

Yes, and we can set up the bilingual structure. Translations are reviewed by a person before they go live.
